Photo of the Day: Philly
Being back in Philly has been so awesome! Other than the weather- seeing my friends, family and amazing clients has been such a treat. Chicago is great and all, but if I could just pluck a few people out of Philly and drop them into my new neighborhood, getting adjusted would be so much better! West’s birthday is this weekend and its been a fun week of planning- we’re going to be seeing so many of our friends this weekend that I don’t think I can control myself!
Anyway, it’s great to be back!
Have you ever made a big move away from family and friends? How long did it take you to get adjusted?

What a beautiful photo! My husband and I moved from California (where we were both born and raised) to Boston for law school for three years. I think it took about a year to adjust to the switch: living in a real city, dealing with snow, missing our friends. But there’s something so surreal about just picking up and having a grand new adventure . . . the more you soak in all the differences, the happier you’ll be!
That’s such a nice way to put it Julie. I def see if as a grand adventure- it will take time to get used to not having my regular schedule, but I like it more than I lead off haha.
Thanks for sharing!

First of all, beautiful photo. Secondly, it’s my fiance’s birthday this weekend too! So I’ve been birthday excited (way more than he is) all week.
And yes, I have moved away from the family and friends, and it’s great, but I definitely would love to pluck some of them out and bring them to me! Have a great weekend!
Yay! Happy birthday to your boy! Is it on Sunday?
Thank you!

My sister lived in Philly for a few years and I loved visiting…so much history in that city! My husband and I moved to Colorado for a year where we didn’t know anyone and it was one of the best decisions we ever made–we learned so much about our selves and each other that year. Also, I ended up meeting one of my best friends. (But I will admit that at times I missed my family and friends from home so much and wished I could transplant them!).
Aww, nice! I think in time I will feel the same for sure. Philly is great, but I am def up for new places and adventures.

I grew up moving every three years or so (and am in the process of moving again next month). It usually takes about a year or so to settle in, but every move is different so it really depends. Moving is never easy, but it’s always exciting because each move allows me to have a fresh start and improve myself. Every time I move, I google places to visit/things to do as a tourist and force myself to explore my new ‘home’ as a tourist and return to the same places again a year later as a ‘local.’ It’s amazing how your perspective changes in a year. Enjoy every moment of it! x
Thanks so much Nina! Yes, I am slowly. VERY SLOWLY. Getting adjusted, but it’s so hard when you spent your whole life doing one thing…
I am going to enjoy every bit of it. Sometimes I just sulk. haha I do like exploring and doing new things- For example, we have not gone to the same place to eat twice here. It forces us to try new places in different locations :)
Thanks so sharing!

Such a pretty sunset! I’ve never been to Philadelphia, but I’ve always wanted to!
I moved from a very small hispanic town in south Texas to Dallas – a big city filled with blue-eyed blondes. It was great, being able to view the world from a different angle, and realize that what you think is normal/odd might not really be.
p.s. I love that you like blush pink just as much as I do : )

Thanks Rebecca! It’s actually sunrise! But yea, Philly has some pretty cool spots. I totally think a different angle adds a new and fresh perspective.
Blush pink is lovely on a site!

I like about five minutes outside of Philadelphia in New Jersey so I can attest to the awesomeness of Philly. ;)
The bf and I have been considering a big move lately, contemplating warmer climates and far off adventures, but somehow we keep coming back to look at homes in this area because we’re not sure about leaving our family and friends. I’m still ready to take the leap, but it’s definitely a sort of terrifying idea of starting fresh and building a new home base.
Sarah!
Yes, Philly is cool. But for like years, West and I were dreaming of leaving. I guess it just was not Chicago that I had in mind. Def somewhere warmer. But it’s more missing the friends and family. I know I’ll make friends and it’ll be awesome- so don’t let anything deter you.
I’m excited for the adventure :) Thanks for the words!
